Between the Moss and Stone
No torrent shakes the timber floor,
Nor carves the mountain in its wake;
It slips along the quiet shore
With only gentle steps to make.
Across the shelf of velvet green,
Through pockets where the birch leaves rest;
A silver thread, low and serene,
Held softly in the forest chest.
The autumn woods breathe cool and deep,
The hemlocks shade the amber floor;
Where shadowed waters wake from sleep,
To find what stone had kept before.
Field Notes: Quiet feeder stream cascading through mossy boulders and fallen autumn birch/beech leaves in the deep Adirondack hemlock woods. Canon EOS R5, locked on a stable tripod to capture the gentle long-exposure spill across the stone tiers.
