Friday Lights on North Main
The neon stirs the autumn chill,
A golden arc against the brick;
Where quiet street and pavement spill
Their polished shadows, cool and thick.
A time when Friday meant the town,
When sidewalks hummed with shoe and dress,
Before the evening lights went down,
And silence claimed the wilderness.
The marquee holds its steady glow,
A beacon from a vanished crowd,
While clouds of dusk drift soft and slow,
Above the rooflines, dark and proud.
Though decades shift the avenues,
And storefronts trade their former name,
The night remembers all its cues,
And keeps the theater’s spark aflame.
A quiet walk past The Glove Theatre as twilight settled over North Main Street. Growing up here, Friday night was when the entire city gathered downtown—the sidewalks were full, the shops were bright, and if you needed new clothes or shoes for school, this was the place to be.
Seeing the marquee lit up against the wet asphalt brings back that bustling energy, a reminder of the grand theater days when Hollywood premieres and traveling shows lit up the Glove City.
Field Notes: Captured handheld at dusk, balancing the warm neon and incandescent glow of the marquee against the cool twilight clouds over North Main.
