November 1, 2026 – October’s Epilogue
The Full Circle

A month ago the boughs were green,
With creamy blooms of blushing rose;
Now paper rust adorns the scene,
Before the coming winter snows.

The maple yields its final leaf,
To carpet paths along the rail;
A vibrant reign, intense and brief,
Now swept before the northern gale.

The daytime moon hangs pale and high,
Above bare limbs that reach and cling;
The quiet year breathes out a sigh,
And settles till the call of spring.

Thirty-three days ago, this project began right here on the lawn with a panicle hydrangea holding its final soft summer pink beneath a full, green maple canopy. Today, under a piercing blue November sky and a faint daylight moon, the transformation is complete. The creamy blooms have cured into dry russet crowns, the maple has dropped its full coat to carpet the fence line, and winter’s clean lines are laid bare. The circle has turned.
