The Threshold of Dawn
The house rests easy in deep morning blue,
Its warm golden windows keeping night’s watch,
While silent lawns glisten with silver-bright dew,
Under tall spires of towering scotch.
The city still sleeps, not a tire on the street,
Just the whisper of night slipping softly away.
Four little paws trace the road at our feet,
A quiet companion to usher the day.
A mild autumn stillness hangs calm in the air,
Before morning light breaks the roofline and tree;
A stroll in the quiet, unhurried and fair,
Returning to porch steps familiar and free.
Soon off to the shelter with purpose in hand,
Where eager tails wait for a warm, caring friend—
Welcoming October across the quiet land,
With morning’s soft peace as the night reaches end.
October opens with a calm, dewy blue hour. An early walk with the pup through the sleeping streets, back to the warm glow of home, before heading over to care for the rescue dogs at the shelter.
